Success And Work Continues

Save Our Trail is very pleased with the outcome at the March 24th Sound Transit Board meeting - an ST3 draft plan that did not include bus or rail transit on the Cross Kirkland Corridor Trail.

The ST3 draft plan did include:

  1. Bus Rapid Transit on I-405 (E-02)
  2. The NE 85th Street Station
  3. Bus Access Transit lanes on NE 85th extending to Downtown Kirkland
  4. Early deliverable projects, including parking at Kingsgate
  5. Environmental Study

"We couldn’t have asked for a better outcome," said David Greschler, leader of Save Our Trail."We are extremely happy that Sound Transit chose to keep transit off our Trail and invest in a bus rapid transit project for I-405."

Save Our Trail is committed to continue to work with Sound Transit and the Kirkland City Council to permanently preserve the CKC as a recreational and non-motorized trail.  We need to find out more about the environmental study and the specifics of the I-405 plan.  Regardless, we are prepared to do what is necessary to keep transit off the Trail now and in the future.

Sound Transit has opened a public comment period that ends April 29th, which includes an on-line survey and public meetings.  Save Our Trail intends to play an active role during this period to ensure that the voices of our supporters, who have worked hard to preserve our Trail, are heard.
